I am considering to write this topic: Should textbooks be replaced by electronics. This interested me because of these reasons.
-Textbooks are made from trees
-My friends are always saying their backpacks are too heavy
-Textbooks are easily damaged/electronics can last longer
But there are also cons for this debate and I agree with both sides(so far). To be honest, I would agree with the negative side because of these reasons:
-Textbooks can actually last longer because electronics are easily damaged and it is very costly to fix
-The maintenance cost for the electronics are also costly
-It can become a distraction (students can play games, go on inappropriate websites, etc.)
So I am leaning towards the negative side. I found a website that is pretty helpful because there is plenty of facts and information. (Debate.org)
This is a complex and important current topic. Related to this debate are the minerals in our electronic devices, which have and continue to play a huge role in some of the worlds' worst violence. My understanding is Intel is the leader on fair-trading around this issue but how much difference they are able to do or are really doing, I haven't read. I can only read so much about this topic, and I don't recommend it, because it's very disturbing.
ReplyDeleteThis is a topic that I also considered doing. I've always only considered the positives about having textbooks replaced by electronics; but never thought about the negatives. I was surprised by how many negatives there are, and how all of them are true and relatable.
